Senior Product Developer, Hardgoods : El Segundo, CA : Full-time

Our client, Manduka, is looking for an innovative Senior Product Developer, Hardgoods to lead the production creation process across all hardgoods/accessories products.


  • The Product Developer manages the product creation process from initial concept to commercialization and production for assigned models
  • Responsible for final execution of how chemical compounds react to influence product performance and provide clear communication to manufactures on necessary requirements and changes to improve functionality
  • Leads on time delivery and development according to critical dates, product specification, sustainability, performance, and profitability goals
  • Collaborates with Design, Brand and Marketing as well as Merchandising, and Production to effectively execute product development goals and deliverables
  • Creates and maintains appropriate documentation for assigned products; ensures all appropriate development documentation is completed, including product specs, costing and prototype notes
  • Produces and maintains accurate product specifications, cost breakdowns and product safety data sheets
  • Own the Hardgoods materials library of current and new vendors to drive innovation and costing efficiencies in raw material purchasing
  • Tracks and facilitates sampling and prototyping for products; identifies and addresses key issues and challenges in construction/manufacturing and plans accordingly to deliver proven and tested product
  • Manages product and lab testing to ensure material specs, tolerances, safety and production requirements meet or exceed standards
  • Monitors and communicates progress and challenges throughout the product testing process to meet product integrity requirements
  • The Product Developer keeps abreast of market trends, team goals, new technology and consumer needs throughout the development process
  • Collaborates with factories to drive new product innovation opportunities and look to alternative industries for new materials, processes and applications which reduce the impact on environment
  • Engages appropriately to ensure projects are completed within corporate guidelines and goals for all facets of product creation
  • Ensures all new projects and current mainline products are engineered to meet and exceed cost targets and financial objectives

Requirements for the position include:

  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of experience in hard goods development and manufacturing with a focus on yoga, general sporting goods, athletic footwear/equipment or related products
  • Degree in a related field; Product Development, Engineering, Technology, Chemistry
  • Strong understanding of the design, development and manufacturing process from concept through commercialization
  • Experience with thermoplastic polymers used in textile coatings for reel to reel manufacturing, in addition to injection and compression molds (PVC, TPE, TPR, EVA, IMEVA, Natural Rubber, etc.)
  • Strong project management and problem solving skills
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication and skills, including presentations
  • Knowledge of hard goods manufacturing and costing
  • Understanding of the product creation process
  • Understands product testing methodology and protocol
  • Ability to read and write product specs
  • Create and manage all tech packs for development and production
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, Adobe Creative Suite programs
