Apparel Innovation and Design Manager : Boca Raton, FL : Full Time

We are searching for a talented Design Manager for our client, a performance & lifestyle apparel company. The Innovation & Design Manager will be responsible for development & sourcing partnerships and design initiatives, as well as managing the Innovation & Design Department. A background in athletic apparel and understanding of different textiles is vital for success in this role.


  • Exceptional ability to apply and perform design skills, including drawing, sketching, concept ideation, color theory, use of texture, spacing and scale, visual presentation development and layout that is supported by computer based graphic design.
  • Comprehensive understanding of garment construction, cut and sew, fabrications, styling, trims, textiles sciences, graphic art, and demonstrate the ability to apply these skills in innovative ways that elevate product excellence. These designs must be produced with a deep knowledge of product components, costing, target margins, and required FOB’s.
  • Highly experienced in athletic fashion industry with proven ability to incorporate trend research and future seasonal fabrics, colors, trim, fit, and body design into collections.
  • Proficient financial skills and knowledge, including ability to optimize resources to create profitability.
  • Strong understanding and application of managerial concepts and techniques in areas such as project/change management, idea creation, employee development, coaching and cross-team effectiveness.
  • Accustomed to working in a rapidly changing, high growth environment.
  • Manage and adhere to department calendar.
  • Conduct regular competitor analysis activities.
  • Ensure timely samples are developed and built for adopted product range.
  • Manage the progressive finalization of garments from concept to production stage.
  • Develop and build supplier base and sourcing alternatives.
  • Liaise with Sales Account Executives to ensure the right product lines are developed.
  • Manage, review, and set department objectives with performance measures for the Design Team.
  • Provide leadership and management to the Design team.
  • Communicate daily with sourcing channels, merchandising, planning, and distribution to execute production strategy and on time delivery.
  • Mange and negotiate costing process with vendors and sourcing channels to achieve financial goals.
  • Manage all raw materials and re-orders for key items.
  • Manages all in house and outside designers on established corporate time lines. Responsible for ensuring execution of design/ tech packages during design process; inspiring creativity and fostering new concepts that expand on brand defining products and technologies.
  • Continually looks for opportunities to develop design team members.
  • Design apparel that is competitive, unique, and innovative and upholds the TLF culture and attitude.
  • Create seasonal concept boards illustrating theme, trend, color, styling, and fabric direction.
  • Attend key account meetings.
  • Travel as needed. 


  • 7+ years of related or similar professional experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Design (apparel), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Display passion and motivation for activewear and athletic lifestyle.
  • High level of Proficiency in In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and design applications.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • High level problem solving and decision-making ability.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Extremely strong knowledge of formulating color palettes.
  • Extremely strong knowledge and understanding of apparel construction.
  • Extremely strong knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Extremely strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses.
  • Extremely strong knowledge of textile and material construction and properties.
  • Extremely strong knowledge of product costs and impact of design.
